St. John the Beloved
Dominican Chapel
Welcome!

We are part of a federation of independent 'Old' Catholic churches. We offer a progressive alternative to the Catholic tradition. We are the direct descendants of the original church of the Apostles, the same church that is the root of Roman Catholicism, a denomination with which we are not affiliated. We affirm traditional Catholic beliefs of faith, love, spirituality, community, and prayer. We celebrate the Seven Sacraments, adhering to the essentials of Catholic doctrine and practice as expressed and implied in the statements of Vatican Council II and in the light of the best contemporary Catholic thought.
As a Reformed Catholic Community we proclaim the unconditional love and compassion of God, which embraces each of us regardless of our state or condition in life. We acknowledge the primacy of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit to speak in our day through the sensus fidelium ('sense of the faithful'), leading to a world of justice and peace.

This Catholic Community is...

Inclusive:
This Reformed Catholic Community seeks to reach out to those who may have felt alienated by their prior church experiences. We believe that who a person is, and how a person lives, does not separate him or her from the love and compassion of God; thus, we are determined to reject artificial barriers to the reception of the Sacraments based on marital status, sexuality or lifestyle. In particular, we place no artificial barriers in the way of the reception of the Sacrament of Baptism, when parents sincerely desire that their child be received into the Mystical Body of Christ.

Proactive:

Believing that the Holy Spirit continues to guide the Church through the 'Sense of the Faithful', the our Catholic Community sees itself as a process as well as an institution which hopes to listen to, rather than speak for, the people of God as they seek ways, prompted by the Spirit, to remake the Church into a credible community of faith for the modern world. This gathered community is particularly sensitive to the voices of those who, having been called to Catholic ministry, have found their way blocked by sexism and blanket requirements of celibacy.

Compassionate:
The difficult decisions in our lives are always harder to make alone. At such times, the compassionate support of a community of faith can be crucial. Yet such support can be difficult to find in the face of 'legalistic' moral pronouncements regarding such issues as divorce and remarriage, birth control, sexual orientation, and complex medical issues. Morality ought to be the response to the life of the Holy Spirit within each human person, and a loving way of life for the whole community. We believe wholeheartedly that an informed conscience, molded on Gospel values of truth, justice, compassion and love, should be the ultimate motivating force in a person's life. We teach these values with the individual person in mind and with respect for individual human freedom and dignity. We trust that we, if people living in the spirit of truth, will be able to decide what is just and right conduct, both in our own lives and within society.

In Short...
We believe that no person should be denied the ability to worship Jesus Christ in an open and affirming worship community. These beliefs hold forth for both members and clergy. Our family is open to every race, gender, and sexual orientation. We celebrate a weekly open communion for all baptized Christians regardless of denomination.
If you feel left out or hurt by your religion, if you are denied sacraments and the same acceptance as others in your church - the time has come to talk to us.
We also welcome those who feel called to serve God as clergy. Please contact us regardless of your past theological connections, race, gender, or sexual orientation.
